Butter Chicken, Reimagined: Meet Chicken Makhani
Butter chicken has been a beloved staple in the RedKitchen, but recently, we discovered we can do it better and we’re excited to share the story behind it.
Every Thursday, the team at RedKitchen and a few contractors who magically turn up enjoy a family lunch where our chefs take turns cooking for all. One of our superstar hot kitchen chefs, Shiva, makes his butter chicken recipe that has everyone asking for seconds. It is so good, we thought: why not bring Shiva’s recipe to the menu?
Shiva’s recipe is authentic to Delhi and packed with flavor – 15 different herbs and spices go into every batch! As we worked on adapting it for our menu, we took on board customer feedback and reduced the amount of potato to make room for more organic Bostocks Chicken, creating the perfect balance that keeps the dish unctuous and full of flavor. With the recipe now more authentic and a little extra heat added for those who like a touch of spice, it was only fitting that the name got a refresh too. What you once knew as Butter Chicken is now proudly Chicken Makhani – a dish full of flavor and a touch of love from our kitchen to yours.
Now, Shiva’s Chicken Makhani is available in two ranges: large, where you can pair it with our Vegetable Biryani, or small, which is already served with fragrant saffron rice for a complete meal, and don’t forget a big dollop of our mango chutney, which is made in Te Awamutu with the same love and care as Shiva’s butter chicken…
So is it time to try? Spend $50 ordering online at redkitchen.co.nz, write “Shiva’s butter chicky please” in the “special instructions” box, and we will throw in a sample.
For those who have been asking where the Butter Chicken has gone, we hope you give it a go and taste the difference, and discover why our team - and soon, you - can’t get enough!
