THE GIFT OF TIME
I have spent a lot of times in airports lately. While I am not complaining they, are the downside of travel and huge suckers of time!
On my way home from our fourth annual Taste of Sicily Tour I had a 10 hour lay over in Rome. Now if you are a foodie being stuck at Romes airport is not too bad and I suggest searching out Eataly. But ten hours is far too long to spend in an airport so I caught a train into town and met the Marco from Scoteroma for a fun afternoon on the back of a vespa discovering some hidden treasures in Rome.
Fast forward half a day and I was in another airport (Dubai this time) contemplating time. It is such a precious resource, but one we often treat with complete disregard, believing it is in abundance.
I had been away from home for near on a month and was missing my daughter, so was planning all the things we needed to do together when I was back, like as she said, “cuddles on the couch”.
Children are great measure of time. It starts when you are pregnant, and they start counting time in weeks. Weeks until their arrival and then how many weeks old they are. Even as you move to measuring in month and years that time seems to fly. People will warn you of this at the time, but it is not until you look back that you really get how true it is.
Imagine being able to give a young family more time during the first weeks or months of their babies’ life. Well in a way you can. Offer to take older siblings out, don’t just visit, help by hanging out the washing or perhaps bring or send them delicious nutritious meals. The Red Kitchen team can definitely help you out here!
But why stop this thought process here. Surely you need more time! Want to spend more time with your kids? Perhaps you want to coach their sports team or be more present in the afternoons/evenings? Let’s face it that five O’clock rush is real!
“Cheating” and popping a Red Kitchen Lasagne in the oven is an easy way to claim back your time you would be in the kitchen cooking dinner. As someone who cooks for a living, I hate midweek meals! There is always something better or more urgent to do and it is not uncommon in our household to not eat until 7pm or for us to have eggs on toast.
Which is why I live from the freezer with quick and easy meal options, be it meals I cook large amounts of and frozen (Spag bol and curries are great for this) or quick an easy option like a steak Sammy (fry the steak and serve on garlic bread with salad and a great chutney). Or make a habit and fill the freezer with Red Kitchen meals, your future self will love you for it!
And now you have made the switch and understand the value of time make sure you make the most of it. Pack that spare time with memories and experiences. Like a trip to Croatia with Taste of Tours!
